Quickly emerging as one of the most stylized writers in the south, Cynic One is a name to be recognized, whether your looking or not. From the freight count, detailed production pieces, or continuous gallery shows where Cynic showcases his skill with countless various mediums, this young Florida native has a deep well of talent beyond his 21 years of age and experience to prove it. Take the Guinness world record for longest scrolling graffiti canvas, numerous live paintings for exhibitions like the sneaker pimps, or putting together ad concepts for clients such as Pepsi amongst others. Cynic took some time away from his busy schedule of paint fumes, probation meetings, college courses, and a few part time jobs to sit and talk for a moment. Heres what he had to say:
-So Mr. Cynic, I understand you are the new addition to a Miami based crew. Who do you currently represent?
TCP!! Typoe and Murder were some of the first cats I met from down there and i'm glad i got linked up with them first. They seem to have the same train of thought I have, wanting to avoid the ego's and beef and focus on droppin bombs and burners, as well as crushin the gallery scene, straight hustlin. Other than that I'm always gonna represent my homeboy's from the 321 count down city, Sone2, Deps, This, Juda and Slow are really the ones pushin it, you'll know it when you see us.
-How does it feel to be such an emerging force in the southern graff scene? Where do you think the Florida graff scene is headed?
Well for the most part I'm still itching to do more. I want to not only paint more of Florida but create a network of writers from city to city that will make Florida a force to be reckoned with. I think if Florida's gonna go anywhere it's gonna take writer's pullin together and feeding off each other to motivate and develop a stronger style rather than just talkin shit on the forum's.
-Where do you see yourself going in the art world?
Right now I'm working to get my art degree, after that I would just hope to keep painting, stay freelance, and stay up. I guess my main goals would be to bring some attention to Florida but also be a player in the international scene.
-What artists/people inspire you?
Definately my crew, they always drive me to take shit a little farther than before. Other than that probably Ser2, I've only met him once but I think his style is real original and i respect how he seems to be doing his own thing.
-Do you have any crazy stories about a time you got chased/busted?
Yeah, one night after going to see some crazy mutant horror movie with some girl I roll out solo to a little freight layup nearby me. Well, just as I'm beginning to paint, this husky figure with green eyes jumps down off the freight on one side of me, I almost shit a brick! not knowing what "it" was I turned to buck in the other direction but there's already another one waiting for me. I thought I was gonna get raped by mutant's until one of them pointed a gun at me and told me to "drop the can." It turns out they were a FEC special vandal task force wearing night vision goggles who had been staked out up in the freight's all week.
-I heard an interesting story about some unorthodox community service you did for a graffiti charge. Do you care to elaborate?
Well, I was being being put on probation and was required to do 100 hours of community service. Before I was finished with court I had completed 60 hours painting graff murals at a local sk8park, however the judge didn't accept it and made me sign up to do maintnance work with some parks and recreation guys. After my first day of pulling weeds and picking up trash my supervisor comes to me with a flick of a mural I had done and asked if I wanted to do some painting to make up the rest of my hours!! The $4,000 I was paying off to the state was being turned right around to pay for my paint and supplies to feed my graff habit!!! I ended up doing two murals that are now landmarks in my town.
-Do you have any last words or shout outs?
Definately to all my boys here in Melbourne, my TCP homies, and anyone out there doin the damn thang.
